Care for your charms
TIPS FOR STORING AND CARING FOR Y JEWELRY
Your jewelery, just like you, deserves special care. Sterling Silver is a precious metal and may require cleaning from time to time. Y jewelry is made from 925 Sterling Silver. Correct and regular care can ensure that your jewelery remains beautiful and a continuing rememberance of your happy memories.
To ensure you enjoy your precious and beautiful jewelry for a longer time, you should follow a few basic directions:
- Jewelry should preferably not be worn while going to bed or working in the house or garden, while swimming (in salt or chlorinated water), showering or during a physical activty.
- Exposure to certain harsh chemicals or environment, may result in compromising the sheen and brilliance of the jewelery. It is advisable to use perfume, hairspray and other cosmetics before putting on the jewelry as the coating on stones and pearls can be damaged if in contact with alcohol or other solvents.
- Wrap or store the pieces in a fabric pouch or muslin or any other soft cloth, preferably separate from other jewelery. This will prevent your jewelry from being scratched.
Soap, crème and make-up residues can be removed using an ultrasound device, keeping in mind that it should not contain aggressive cleaning agents. For best results, use water and a neutral detergent.
Immerse the jewelry for approx. 10 seconds and then rinse thoroughly under hot water and rub dry using a cloth or a hairdryer.
Oxidised items of jewelry should not be cleaned using a silver dipping bath or polished with a silver cloth as these may remove the oxidation.
Items of jewelry with imitation pearls, crystals, synthetic stones and mother of pearl are not suitable for cleaning in a silver dipping bath.
Only the silver parts of jewelry should be cleaned using a silver cloth. Thread and Leather cords must not be placed in a silver dipping bath or cleaned in an ultrasound device.
TRACES OF WEAR AND TEAR ON POLISHED
SILVER AND GOLD PLATED SURFACES
All Y silver pieces are crafted using 925 sterling silver and gold pieces are plated using 18-carat yellow or rose gold.
Please note that traces of wear and tear (e.g. scratches) are more visible on items which have larger polished silver or gold surfaces as on other items. These can occur even after a short time.
External influences like scratches and tarnishing are normal signs of wear and tear and are no material faults!
Colored enamel details are hand painted to highlight and enhance decorative details. Enamel details are resistant to water but may be damaged by corrosive substances. The pieces detailed using enamel should be regarded as fragile material as a violent blow may cause the enamel to crack and the color to be disturbed.
Y uses a wide variety of synthetic stones like Swarovski crystals, Preciosa crystals as well as Cubic Zirconia.
We carefully select our stones, however a slight color variation may happen over a period of time. These features are natural in stones and are not to be considered imperfections.
Store your silver jewelry in a clean, dry place away from direct sun exposure. Please avoid storing your jewelry in damp and hot conditions as this can cause silver and gold plating to discolour and tarnish.
Skin and hair products such as body lotions, perfumes and creams can react adversely with jewelry causing precious metals to tarnish and/or erode. It is advisable to apply any cosmetic products in advance of putting on jewelry.
You can refresh the shine of your jewelry piece by polishing the item with a silver/gold cleaning cloth, each time before storing it.
